THE PRODUCT AND ITS STORY
The silver fir is a conifer, an evergreen tree with resinous wood, which can reach up to 45 m. in height, typical of the mountainous regions of Southern Europe between 400 and 2000 m. In the past, “Alsatian Turpentine” or “Strasbourg Turpentine” was obtained from this species, and from its cones an essential oil called “Templin Oil”.
Our essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from needles and leaf twigs, and appears as a transparent, clear and pale yellow liquid, with a fresh, light, radiant and sweet odor with a balsamic appearance and a citric note. The top note is fresh and high, recalling resins and pine needles, the body is resinous and has a washed and almost fruity character. On average, 200-300 kg of plant are needed to obtain 1 liter of essential oil
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION
Like most conifer oils, it is chemically characterized by monoterpenes.
HOW AND WHEN TO USE IT
Often used in European perfumery, in pine and pine/herbaceous fragrances for bubble baths and for medicinal inhalation preparations. Also used in men's perfumes for its fresh and balsamic notes.
CAUTIONS
No essential oil derived from conifers should be used if too old, i.e. if excessively oxidized, as it could cause irritation. In terms of time, the essential oil, if well preserved, becomes "old" in 12-18 months.
Store in sealed containers, protected from light and heat, if possible in the refrigerator.
