THE PRODUCT AND ITS STORY
The tree grows abundantly in Central Europe, in particular in Tyrol and in the Alpine and pre-Alpine areas of Switzerland, Austria and Northern Italy, the former Yugoslavia and generally in the Balkans. The collection areas for distillation are above 1300 masl and below 2000 masl. The tree is protected in many areas and can only be exploited at certain times of the year, at a certain altitude and in a regulated manner.
Although it is part of the class of conifer oils with a low ester content, mountain pine oil is characteristic and differs in aroma from other pine needle oils, due to the low percentage presence of some particularly fragrant compounds.
Our oil is obtained from needles and small leaf twigs obtained from young trees, by steam distillation; it is a mobile liquid, very pale yellow, with a characteristic and pleasant pine smell, slightly sweet and with a delicate balsamic aspect, with a slightly resinous and wooden, almost spicy final note reminiscent of cypress and juniper berries.
On average, 250 kg of plant are needed to obtain 1 liter of essential oil.
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION
Like most conifer oils, it is chemically characterized by monoterpenes, in particular α-, β-pinene, limonene, delta3-carene, phellandrene, and bornyl acetate.
HOW AND WHEN TO USE IT
It is used in combination with other conifer needle oils (white and spruce), with lavandin oil, rosemary oil, sage oil and ylang ylang oil, especially as an ambient fragrance, bath products, leather notes in perfumes male, etc.
CAUTIONS
No essential oil derived from conifers should be used if too old, i.e. if excessively oxidized, as it could cause irritation. In terms of time, the essential oil, if well preserved, becomes "old" in 12-18 months.
Store in sealed containers, protected from light and heat, if possible in the refrigerator.
