With the term PROBIOTICS those must be understood microorganisms which, introduced with food, are capable of reach the intestine in conditions of vitality and exercise one health action .

To be considered probiotics, microorganisms must meet the following requirements:

• be of INTESTINAL ORIGIN . Probiotic microorganisms must be normal components of the microflora of the human intestine in healthy conditions;
• be absolutely SAFE for use in humans without to cause side effects especially in debilitated or immunocompromised patients;
• to be ACTIVE And VITAL to the environmental conditions that are present at the intestinal level;
• to be RESISTANT at a low pH, gastric juice, bile and pancreatic juice;
• therefore be able to PERSIST , at least temporarily, in the human intestine ;

• SYNTHESIZE SUBSTANCES WITH ANTIMICROBIAL ACTION.
  The possibility of synthesizing substances with antibacterial activity such as bacteriocins; substances with an action similar to bacteriocins: lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide give some microorganisms a real direct antimicrobial activity.
• STIMULATE THE RESPONSE OF THE INTESTINAL IMMUNE SYSTEM (GALT: Gut Associated Lymphoid Tissue) to protect, indirectly, the host from the establishment and/or the reaching of dangerous numerical levels by pathogenic germs present in the intestine. It has been shown that some bacteria are able to increase the IgA titer, increase macrophage activity, increase the number of killer cells, T cells, interferon and interleukins.
• IMPROVE AND STABILIZE THE INTESTINAL BARRIER FUNCTION (e.g. establishment of a protective biofilm, decrease in intestinal permeability, etc.).
