Propolis is a bee product with an intense and aromatic odor, with an extremely variable dark color. The appearance of propolis is influenced by the variety of plant from which the original resin comes, with which the bees produce it. Propolis is used by bees to seal the spaces of the hives, to disinfect and keep the hive clean. Propolis appears as a sticky and malleable resin that hardens at low temperatures and, to be used, is heated to around 65-70°C and placed in aqueous or alcoholic solutions. Known since ancient times, propolis is not a food in the strict sense and is still used today in the composition of herbal and pharmaceutical products, thanks to the properties of some of the substances that compose it: resins, balsamic substances, essential oils and countless active molecules
