Jojoba is able to withstand extreme situations very well. This evergreen shrub, which reaches a height of one to three metres, grows in desert regions with night temperatures between 0 and 5°C and daytime temperatures reaching up to 45°C. It manages to survive in these environmental conditions only thanks to its roots, which reach up to 4 meters deep, drawing water from the deepest layers of the earth, and its leaves, which have adapted to live with the arid climate. In fact, Jojoba has thin, lanceolate leaves that protect themselves from evaporation thanks to their leathery surface, covered with down. The plant is dioecious, that is, there are male shrubs that produce pollen and female shrubs with inconspicuous flowers that develop, after anemophilous pollination, brown acorn-shaped fruits. Despite the extreme habitat in which they live, Jojoba bushes can reach the age of 200 years.
