Boldo is a plant that grows in South America, particularly in Chile and Peru where it is traditionally used for its digestive properties and its choleretic-cholagogue activity. The most interesting active ingredient is boldine, an alkaloid with anti-edemic, antioxidant, diuretic activity (promotes the elimination of uric acid and, for this reason, is useful in case of gout), anti-diabetic, stimulating gastric activity and peristalsis intestinal.
