Collagen is the major structural protein of connective tissue in the body and is found in the skin, cartilage, bones, teeth, membranes and corneas and is responsible for the mechanical properties of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a hydrophilic substance capable of binding a large number of water molecules; at the dermal level it therefore contributes to maintaining the water content of our skin, while at the joint level an adequate content of hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid has a lubricating action and allows the body to cushion mechanical shocks. In cartilage, hyaluronic acid binds to proteoglycans, forming aggregates that promote their stability.
